Construction workers from China in a country known for cheap labor, central Parmamaribo, Suriname. The annual per capita income for Suriname is US$5,920 (World Bank, 2009) , while China's is US$4,260 (World Bank, 2010), but the China's Agriculture Ministry statistics for 2009 suggested that, on average, city dwellers in China earned 3.36 times more than those in the rural areas, increasing the incentive to work so far from home.
