Untouched, old growth Amazonian rainforest extends out for as far as the eye can see and further in Suriname's pristine interior. This wealth of nature is increasingly the envy of Asian transnational logging corporations and mineral prospectors. Suriname has set aside large swathes of forest in nature preserves but a much greater area is unprotected. A change of government could easily result in these precious, tropical forests; reservoirs for medicines, water and oxygen, being placed on offer to the highest bidder for exploitation and ultimate destruction.
