Mr. Li from Houjie, near Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China. He moved to Suriname 20 years ago and began working for a construction company. After saving money, he opened a restaurant but the Surinamese landlord soon became envious, Li said, of his success and cut off his water and electricity. So, he moved out. Mr. Li saved money for 15 years to build his house by working 7 days a week and raising vegetables which he still sells in the Chinese market. Although he works every day until 11pm, he said that it is easier in Suriname to earn "three meals a day" working "with (his) own hands" than in China. If he saves enough money, he would like to open a shop. Mr. Li lives with his wife and adult son who was raised in Suriname.
